Less Stuff, More Time

Giving experiences instead of gifts is a growing trend, and for good reason! You can always buy another Lego set, video game, or baby doll, but can you buy another day or a week with your family? 

We've been extremely blessed to be able to take vacations big and small with our kids, and that time is never wasted! No matter where we've been, those days together without interruptions from other commitments are perfect. We've done everything from a cruise to Alaska with grandparents and great grandparents, to a quick weekend trip to visit my husband while he was away for work, and each day has been a gift of its own!

So, what does it take to give an experience instead of a gift? That's entirely up to you! This year we decided to use the money we usually budget for big birthday parties and gifts to go to Universal Orlando for the weekend. We still had a present or 2 wrapped up on the kids actual birthday, but nothing as big as usual. Instead, we let them choose souvenirs at the parks, and sang them Happy Birthday with their favorite characters. The best part is, both of my kids have asked if we can skip parties again next year and instead just spend time doing something special.
