Experience Disney Performing Arts

On our most recent visit to Walt Disney World, we had the honor of performing on the Disney Springs Main Stage. I guess I should say our children did the dancing, while we got to enjoy it from the crowd. This was our second trip to Walt Disney World with Disney Performing Arts to watch our daughters dance on the stage. Overall it was an experience my kids will remember for a lifetime.

Each group that performs at Disney Springs is different. Some sing, play instruments, dance and so much more. It truly is a very special experience to have all types of schools and organizations coming together to perform. There are many activities from workshops to competitions and even parades! Each experience is unique to the group traveling.

These trips are like normal vacations, except you set aside time to perform and do workshops. Each of our performances were at night. We left our kids with the dance instructor to get on a bus to a staging location. They would walk from Saratoga Springs with Disney Cast Members surrounding them for security and protection to the Disney Springs main stage. We were strongly advised that they would not be allowed to interact with us. This is all for their protection and Disney Cast Members take this seriously.

Then your kids shine on the stage and your heart swells from the pride and the love you feel as they dance across the stage. On our last trip, my oldest daughter had a solo dance on stage. That has always been a dream of hers that came true.

All of this takes about 5 hours. They leave us 3 hours before the performance, 30 minutes to perform and 30-45 minutes to change and get back to us. Let me tell you, it wears them out!

The workshops are all different. They audition as if they are coming to work at Disney World, learn a dance or musical performance, then perform it. Our first trip Goofy came in to dance with them and our second trip we did a musical that they performed for the parents. It is totally up to the instructors if you can take pictures, video or even have parents in the room. I was lucky to be the photographer our first trip as no parents were allowed inside. Sometimes they actually use new concepts they are working on to see the reactions. This is why sometimes they don’t allow the memories to be captured or shared. On both trips, the buildings were secret locations, so I can’t tell you much about the actual buildings, but man they were cool and steeped in history!

On our first trip one of my daughters got a special treat! She got to meet the cast of Finding Nemo at Animal Kingdom. Our dance instructor is friends with the Cast Member who performs in the musical and got a few kids to meet them and pose for a picture.

Each trip I have met the most incredible Cast Members with Disney Performing Arts. One was retired and loved working part time being a guide to the kids at the workshop. She gave us all the neat facts about the buildings and how secretive it all was. I met a dance instructor who work on Broadway before coming to Disney to help choreograph the stage shows. He taught the kids a section of a Broadway Musical that the cast had to learn in two weeks, while our kids had 3 hours. It’s an incredible experience beginning to end. It teaches kids what to expect if they decide to make performing arts their career, and if not, then a look into what it takes to make it.

These memories are unique, and I would recommend if you have a chance to experience Disney from a Performing Arts perspective, grab onto it. The memories are magical and can’t be replicated.
