Strolling through Disney: What are Your Stroller Options?

Picture
When touring a Disney Park, you will end up walking much more than you think you will.  As an adult, my feet are hurting by the end of the day.  I can only imagine what a child’s feet would feel like if they did the same amount of walking as an adult.  Luckily, they do not have to as there are several different options for strollers at the Disney Parks.  Just to be clear, even if your child does not need a stroller at home anymore, they will most likely need one at a Disney Park still.  It will save you the whining and them to painful feet if you plan ahead and have a stroller option in place!  There are three main options available to you at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

Option 1 - Bring one from home.

If you and your family are still in the throws of stroller age children, this might be your best bet!  It will certainly be your cheapest option.  However, within this option there are even more options.  Should I bring a jogging stroller or an umbrella stroller?  Here is my opinion on the options.  Both the jogger and the umbrella have pros and cons.  My family usually chooses to bring our jogger for the simple reason that it is more comfortable for our daughter.  We do what everyone tells you not to do and stay at the parks the entire day.  This means that come about 2:00 we “suggest” that our daughter take a quick nap so she can make it until close.  Our jogger reclines much further back and the sunshade provides much more shade than our umbrella.  Plus, our jogger can hold more “stuff” like ponchos or souvenirs than our umbrella.  However, the biggest con to bringing a jogger is taking it on the buses!  The packed Magic Kingdom bus in the morning or going home at night can be a pain with a big stroller.  It must be collapsed before getting on the bus, and it can be a pain balancing the stroller while standing.  The umbrella stroller wins on ease in the buses!  It all comes down to you know your family and what their needs will be while in the park.

Option 2 - Rent one from Disney.

All Disney parks provide strollers for rent upon entering the parks.  You use them for the day and then return them upon exiting the parks.  They are $15 a day for a single stroller ($13 if you rent for length of stay) and $31 for a double ($27 if renting for length of stay) at Disney World.  At Disneyland they are $15 for a single and $25 for two strollers.  That can add up.  It might be worth it to you though if you have older children who are able to walk to and from the bus areas easily without getting tired.  No hassling with a stroller on the bus!

Option 3 - Rent a stroller from a trusted company.

There are several local companies in both Orlando and Anaheim that will provide you with a nice (usually jogging) stroller for the length of your stay for a fee.  Most will deliver your stroller to your resort at the start of your stay and pick it up from your resort when your vacation sadly comes to an end.  Fees will vary by company by an example would be $25 for the first day and $6.50 for each additional day for a single jogging stroller.  If you book your trip with Whitney World Travel your travel advisor can make these arrangements for you!

Hopefully, this will help you in your stroller decision-making process!  Now just a few more tips about navigating a Disney Park with strollers:
  • Put some sort of identifier on your stroller so you can easily spot yours after you exit an attraction!
  • Your stroller might not be in the exact same spot that you parked it when you exit an attraction.  Cast members will often move them to make more room or might move it closer to an attraction exit to make it easier on you!  If you can’t find it, just ask a Cast Member for help!  Also, please do not get upset with them, they are doing their job!
  • It is just fine to leave some items in your stroller when you are on a ride or in a show, however, I would not recommend leaving anything valuable in your stroller.  I have never personally had anything taken at a Disney Park (Cast Members are also there to help watch your stuff), but it is just not worth the risk!
  • Remember to always pull the sunshade out to protect your stroller seat from any of those afternoon rain showers!
