Tips for Taking Babies and Toddlers to Disney Parks

Taking a baby or toddler to Disney can be a magical experience.  However, it can mean a little more planning and preparation before your vacation begins to ensure you have all you might need to have a smooth day at the parks.  Below are some tips to help you and your little one have the best experience possible at Walt Disney World!

  • Use a stroller.  This applies to not only babies and toddlers but bigger kids as well!  Disney requires a lot of walking.  Carrying your baby all day will get exhausting (and hot!) so plan to bring or rent a stroller for your vacation!
  • Use the Baby Care Centers.  Each park has a Baby Care Center.  They provide services such as big cushioned changing tables (complete with paper that is changed between each baby for cleanliness!); selling those products you might have forgotten (or run out of) like diapers, wipes, medicine, formula, etc.; filtered water (both hot and cold); rocking chairs; and many other conveniences.
  • Bring a baby carrier if you have one.  Even if you are not a fan of wearing your baby, it might be a good idea to bring a carrier if you have one.  Sometimes the buses are very crowded.  If no one offers to give up their seat, it will be much easier to be hands free while standing rather than trying to balance while holding a squirming baby!  Plus they can come in handy for long lines or nap times.
  • Bring a light blanket.  There are certain times during the day when you might be waiting in the direct sun.  Even if you have sunscreen on your baby or toddler, it might be nice to have a light (gauze type) blanket to cover their legs as an added layer of protection for their delicate skin.  Plus you never know when you might need to cover something so they can sit and play!
  • Pack an extra outfit in your park bag.  I am not sure why, but it seems kids of all ages get extra messy while at Disney (maybe it is all those Mickey bars)!  An extra outfit is nice to have so you do not need to go back to the resort if there is a mess that requires a new one!
  • Put shoes on your (sitting/standing) baby.  This might seem strange, but if your child does not have shoes on then you must hold them for all character meet and greets!  They can not touch the floor without shoes, so if you want to sit them next to Cinderella - be sure they have some type of shoes on their feet!
  • Use Rider Swap.  This is a great service that Disney offers to guest with young children.  This will allow you and your party to ride an attraction in groups without having to wait in line multiple times!
  • Do not stress out if they cry.  Babies and toddlers cry.  It is okay!  You are at Disney - a place full of kids!  Chances are the person next to you has experienced the same thing at some point!  If people can not understand this, just ignore them and continue enjoying your vacation!
  • Be flexible.  Your Disney schedule is not going to be your schedule at home.  If your toddler does not nap at exactly the right time, do not stress.  Enjoy the moments, let them have fun, and take your cues from them!
  • Bring a camera!  You are going to want to capture all the cute moments of your child’s first time at Disney!
